Dependent Child Sponsorship

Dependent Child Sponsorship in Canada allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their dependent children to immigrate and live with them in Canada. The sponsorship program is designed to reunite families and ensure that children can be with their parents in Canada.

About: About

To be eligible for the Dependent Child Sponsorship program, both the sponsor and the child must meet certain requirements. Here are the key eligibility criteria:

Sponsor's eligibility:

  1. The sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

  2. The sponsor must be at least 18 years old.

  3. The sponsor must meet the financial requirements to demonstrate the ability to support the child financially.

Child's eligibility:

  1. The child must be under the age of 22 and not married or in a common-law relationship.

  2. If the child is 22 years of age or older, they must be financially dependent on their parents due to a mental or physical condition.

  3. The child must be the sponsor's biological child, adopted child, or stepchild.

It's important to note that there are additional requirements and documentation that need to be provided as part of the sponsorship application. These include proof of the relationship between the sponsor and the child, medical examinations, and police clearance certificates.

The process for sponsoring a dependent child involves two main steps:

  1. Sponsorship Application: The sponsor must submit a sponsorship application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This includes the sponsorship application forms, supporting documents, and payment of the processing fees.

  2. Permanent Residence Application: Once the sponsorship is approved, the child will be able to submit their own application for permanent residence. This application includes the required forms, supporting documents, and payment of the processing fees.
